MESSAGE FROM RABBI JULIE ROTH, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

To the CJL Community:
In the immediate aftermath of Israel's military actions in Gaza, the Center for Jewish Life undertook a security audit to determine if we have been doing all that we can and should do to keep the building safe at a time of heightened tension and fear of anti-Semitism.
In a conference call together with other Jewish organizations, we were informed by senior FBI agents that they are aware of no credible terrorist threat to any Jewish institutions in America.
However, we also learned that the security practices of the CJL are less rigorous than many other Hillel's and we have undertaken a process to bring our institution up to the standards that other large Jewish institutional buildings consider prudent. In addition, Princeton University Public Safety has decided to devote additional manpower to monitoring the CJL.  It is our strong commitment that this process will enhance the security of our community without compromising on our community's openness and our building serving as a focal point for Jewish community life at Princeton.
By this time, you may have already noticed the increased presence of Princeton public safety officers in and around our building as part of their routine patrols.  Additional security enhancements to the building will be forthcoming in the weeks to come. In the meantime, we ask that you increase your awareness of your surroundings when in and around the CJL.  Specifically:
-Approach and speak to visitors you have not seen before in the CJL.  This will help first time visitors feel welcome, and will also rise the security profile of the building.  If there is anyone in the building who you sense does not belong in the building for any reason - trust your instincts and contact campus security.
-Report to campus security any "suspicious objects," unusual packages left in a public place, certainly any box or package with wires extruding or with an oily smell.
-Please feel free to contact me, or any CJL staff member, if you have any questions or concerns about our new security measures.

Best wishes for a safe and productive semester,

Rabbi Julie Roth
